Titanic: When Weather Changed History
This episode of When Weather Changed History uses a deft combination of photographs, archival footage, reenactments and interviews to investigate the role that weather had in this greatest of 20th century maritime disasters. Unusually cold weather in the North Atlantic had resulted in an overabundance of icebergs, one of which tore through the Titanic's side and ultimately brought about its destruction. Though the greatest loss of life is undoubtably attributable to an insufficient number of lifeboats and a lack of other safeguards, the tragedy brought home the necessity for the diligent monitoring of iceberg activity-and the establishment of the International Ice Patrol.
