George III - The Genius of The Mad King
The secrets of George III revealed as Robert Hardman explores his private files. George III may be mostly remembered for his madness but these documents reveal another side to him. After 200 years under lock and key, all the personal papers of one of our most important monarchs are for the first time seeing the light of day. In the first documentary to gain extensive access to the Royal Archives, Robert Hardman sheds fascinating new light on George III, Britain's longest reigning king. George III may be chiefly remembered for his madness, but these private documents reveal a monarch who was a political micromanager and a restless patron of science and the arts, an obsessive traveller who never left southern England yet toured the world in his mind and a man who was driven (sometimes to distraction) by his sense of duty to his family and his country.

The Lost Diary of Dr. Livingstone
examine new forensic techniques being used to study Dr. Livingstone’s unpublished field diary, which reveals he was witness to the brutal massacre of slaves at the hands of their traders. The writings in this diary suggest Livingstone was far different from the legend that surrounds him.
Dr. David Livingstone is the renowned British explorer, whom American journalist Henry Morton Stanley greeted with the now famous words, “Dr. Livingstone, I presume.” When New York Herald reporter Stanley found him in a small African village on November 10, 1871, the reclusive Livingstone had lost contact with the outside world for six years. In the late 19th century in Victorian Britain, Livingstone was a popular hero of the era, a celebrated explorer, Christian missionary, staunch abolitionist and pioneering doctor, who developed a treatment for malaria. But was he really the national hero people made him out to be? During his last expedition, Livingstone witnessed and documented an event that changed the course of history. His account of the mass slaughter of the village Nyangwe, recorded in his journal brought back by Stanley, horrified the American and British public and ultimately led to the end of the African slave trade, and closing down the world’s last open slave market.  But Livingstone may not have told the entire story of the massacre in his journal. To discover the truth behind the massacre, follows a team of experts, led by Adrian Wisnicki of Nebraska University, as they attempt to decipher Livingstone’s original field diary – recently discovered – to determine what really happened in Nyangwe.

Jerusalem: The Making of a Holy City
Historian and author, Simon Sebag Montefiore presents a fascinating series on Jerusalem: the place where God meets man, the shrine of three faiths – Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and the most fought over city in history. Montefiore explains how Jerusalem – established by King David 3,000 years ago was fought for and shaped by Kings and Emperors and how the holiness of the city was intensified by myths and fables, borrowed and refined between religions. He then explores how this peerlessly beautiful city rose from a crumbling ruin after the crusades to become a world centre of Islamic pilgrimage, the object of rivalry between Christian nations, a holy refuge for Jews from all over the world and, ultimately, the site of one of the world's most intractable conflicts.

Stealing Lincoln's Body
One of the strangest, most intriguing, and yet almost unknown episodes in American history unfolded in 1876, eleven years after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. A band of Chicago counterfeiters hatched a plot to steal the President’s body from its tomb outside Springfield, Illinois, and hold it for a ransom of $200,000. A paid informant told the newly formed Secret Service. When both the police and the criminals showed up at the cemetery on the appointed night, the scheme was foiled. This feature-length special from HISTORY™ explores the peculiar confluence of historical trends and cultural movements that prompted the crime: the birth of counterfeiting, the growth of embalming, and the influence of secret societies in American life, among others. But above all, the story shows how important this beloved President remained to a public so unprepared for his violent death in 1865.
Startling and informative, this is one of those tales you have to see to believe.
